一个月后,就在lulu再次带队hike Mt baker的那个星期六,一个extremed accomplished mountain climber solo missing at the same day same area.

A friend reported Kevin Lafleur, 31, missing after he didn’t show up at one of his jobs on Monday, according to a Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office press release.
Bellingham Mountain Rescue volunteers, snowmobile volunteers and friends of Lafleur searched the lower Coleman Glacier. Members of Skagit Mountain Rescue searched the east side of the mountain in case Lafleur hiked or skied into the Baker Lake area.Lafleur's vehicle was found at the snowline on Glacier Creek Road, indicating that he intended to climb Baker by the standard route.
“He’s very experienced. He’s climbed Mount Baker many times. He’s climbed Mount Rainier. He’s climbed a huge number of the peaks in the area,” said Harlan Kredit, a Lynden Christian High School science teacher and friend. LaFleur had taught science at Lynden Christian High School for four to five years before leaving to earn a master’s degree, according to Don Kok, superintendent of Lynden Christian Schools. “We’re very concerned for his well-being. Kevin is a wonderful young man,” Kok said. “If anybody could survive in those conditions, Kevin could. He is extremely well-trained, but that’s a big mountain.” LaFleur works at REI in Bellingham. Ray Elliott, store manager, confirmed that LaFleur is an experienced mountaineer.

“We’ll just have to wait, along with everyone else, to see how the search efforts continue,” Elliott said. “We’re concerned about his safety and welfare.”
